VfL Wolfsburg has found a successor to Merle Frohms – and has found what they were looking for.

The change from national soccer goalkeeper Stina Johannes to VfL Wolfsburg is perfect. The 25-year-old from Eintracht Frankfurt received a contract with the German Cup winner until 2028, as the Bundesliga club announced.

“With her we gain a keeper who has outstanding skills and a great charisma. In the past few years, she has regularly demonstrated at the highest level,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s foot at VfL.

The three -time national player Johannes is to be the successor of Merle Frohms in Wolfsburg, whose contract expires in the Lower Saxony. The former DFB goalkeeper had recently lost her regular place.

At Wolfsburg, the personnel upheaval continues. Last summer, the “wolf” had already lost Dominique Janssen to Manchester United and international Lena Oberdorf to FC Bayern Munich. Frohms and wing player Jule Brand have also confirmed their farewell in summer in the past few weeks. At least for Frohms, who was recently only number two, a successor has now been found.

Johannes had confirmed her farewell to Eintracht on Sunday. Frankfurt had already signed Sophia Winkler, who also belongs to the national team. However, the keeper of SGS Essen contracted a cruciate ligament tear and fails for a long time.
