VfB Stuttgart has overcome its small dry spell of three defeats within the last few days and reached the semi-finals in the DFB Cup. VfB defeated FC Augsburg 1-0 (1-0) on Tuesday. Stuttgart was sufficient for a reasonably solid defensive performance against committed but offensive guests from the Fuggerstadt.
“It was a difficult starting position, we anticipated that”said VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß at Esther Sedlaczek and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the first, “It was physically difficult, it was mentally difficult – and I just have to compliment my team.”,, “In the end, the progress counts, we achieved that today. Fortunately, I scored the goal. I had a lot of reckless ball losses, maybe the goal for self -confidence will help me”said Undav in the ARD. Augsburg’s Marius Wolf said: “It was an open game. The chance was there to win against VfB. We didn’t play it consistently enough.”
VfB comes into play hard
Three weeks after VfB’s VfB away win at FC Augsburg, it took almost half an hour before Stuttgart came dangerously in front of Augsburg goal for the first time. With a wonderful chipball Deniz Undav, Angelo Stiller almost had an identical situation like the winning goal in Augsburg Kreierert, Undav Castle from a short distance from right. But this time Nediljko Labrović made himself very wide in the guests’ box and fended off the shot (26th).
Shortly before, Chrislain Matsima had already defended well against Chris Lührich (24th). Up to this point, Augsburg was the clearly better team, Sebastian Hoeneß, eleven from the first minute, unsettled with a high pressing and brought the Stuttgart, staffed personally into a great embarrassment.
And then came the big “Aaaaber” …
But the FCA did not succeed in earning at least a clear chance to score in the first 24 minutes. Only a plug-in pass from Alexis Claude-Maurice on Dimitrios Giannoulis could have had the guest fans cheered if Jacob Bruun Larsen hadn’t taken care of and defended. And then it just came up.
Because of the two scores of the goal, the host quickly struck: Augsburg’s Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka produced a press strike in the game structure against the approaching Undav, which the ex-Augsburg vermed Demirovic snapped on the half-left side. His gaze found the Undav, which was also planned, the passage, as well, and Undav pushed the ball out of center forward against the Labrovic running direction at the bottom left into the goal.
Before the break: Führich meets the outer post
Augsburg, undefeated in the league for four games, subsequently seemed unsettled and without ideas. This once again used leadership for a push over the half -itomed side. After the international prevailed against Matsima, his left -wing shot crashed to the left outer post (44.). Labrovic was there, but would have had to prove his skills really to clarify the ball.
The game remained competitive even after the change of sides. FCA coach Jess Thorup decided to take the in Samuel Essesend and Mert Kömür, and Philipp Tietz would have had the header chance to equalize after a cross from Marius Wolf. The attempt failed that Alexander Nübel in the host’s goal had no problems with the attempt (59.).
To do this, Nübel had to show all of his arts when Kömür pulled off a central position from a good 20 meters and the ball flew the right angle. The keeper also flew there and parried safely (71st).
FCA tries everything
Kömur’s in taking a swing into the Augsburg game. The active Giannoulis, out of the Augsburg team that evening outstanding, made it left to the baseline. Kömür, whose direct shot, was good, but not unsustainable, found his passport into the rear penalty area.
In a foul interruption in added time, in which Giannoulis Enzo Millot met on the foot, referee Sascha Stegemann whistled the game. “We have to hope that nothing happened, he kinked and his gaze didn’t look good,” Hoeneß later said in the sports show.
Stuttgart won unemployed against offensive Augsburger and is in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup.
