Little spectacular, but effective: thanks to a narrow victory against Augsburg, Stuttgart is in the preliminary round of the trophy. A German international was crucial.

VfB Stuttgart is in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. In the southern duel against FC Augsburg, the Swabians won 1-0 (1-0) in front of a home crowd. Striker Deniz undav scored the goal of the day in the 30th minute.

“It was a very open game, but in the end the consequence lacked,” analyzed Augsburg’s Marius Wolf at the ARD microphone. Similarly, his Stuttgart counterpart Undav, who, on the remark of moderator Lea Wagner, saw it replied that it was his “strong game”: “I don’t find a strong game that way, but in the end it counts.”

Wagner later specified that she meant Undav’s individual performance. But even with that, the German international was not quite d’Ccord: “I had a lot of reckless ball losses, maybe the goal for self -confidence will help me,” said Undav.

However, the guests came into play well, attacked early and kept disturbing the Stuttgart team in the game structure. The FCA also tried to succeed with high balls behind the chain. However, the hosts did not seriously in distress through these attempts.

“Negative scenarios are not in my head,” Sebastian Hoeneß had confirmed in advance. After the three defeats against the Mainz (0: 2), Paris Saint-Germain (1: 4) and on Saturday against Mönchengladbach (1: 2), however, not to apply to his team. The Bundesliga fifth, in which Josha Vagnoman and Nick Woltemade were missing, initially found hardly any solutions, seemed unsettled.

It was only after 25 minutes that Leadership ventured a little more risk – and at least took out a corner kick. It was the starting signal for the strongest VfB phase before the change of sides. Just a short time later, Undav failed to Augsburg’s keeper Nediljko Labrović, who was between the posts compared to the 1-1 in the Bundesliga at FC St. Pauli.

After half an hour, however, the Croatian was also left behind. After an unsuccessful attempt at clarification by Frank Onyeka, former FCA scorer Ermedin Demirović claimed the ball and put him Smart to his storm partner Undav. The 28-year-old effortlessly completed.

The leadership goal was good for VfB’s somewhat strained self -confidence. Augsburg, on the other hand, rarely managed to free himself. After a free kick by Marius Wolf, VfB keeper Nübel parried Phillip Tietz’s header (40th). The better options continued. At Leadership, the post saved (44th).

After the change of sides, the hosts checked the game without really having any danger. Above all, the left offensive side over Maximilian Mittelstädt and Führich emerged.

Since the VfB did not add the second goal, it had to tremble into the final phase. At the end of Tietz, referee Sascha Stegemann recognized a handball (56th). Subsequently, the substitute Mert Kömür Nübel forced to two parades (71st/79th).
