DFB Cup: FC Bayern overruns underdog

The soccer players from Eintracht Frankfurt surprisingly missed out on the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, while Bayern Munich progressed comfortably.

The Bundesliga second from Frankfurt lost the round of 16 at second division RB Leipzig 1: 2 (1: 0). FCB won 7-0 (2-0) at MSV Duisburg.

For Eintracht it is the second setback this season. The Frankfurt women failed to qualify for the Champions League at Ajax Amsterdam in August.

“They did well, we didn’t. We didn’t get to our maximum, so that’s not enough in the cup. We knew they were good and should have played better,” said Frankfurt international Laura Freigang on “Sky”.

In the other Bundesliga duel on Saturday, SGS Essen beat Werder Bremen 1-0 (0-0). Second division club Carl Zeiss Jena won against league rivals SC Sand 4:2 (1:2).

FC Bayern with five goalscorers

Slovenian international Lara Prasnikar (16th) put Eintracht in the lead in Leipzig. Marlene Müller (55th/87th) turned the game around with her brace in the second half.

“Great, that’s what we were looking forward to. In the second half we got our chances, used them and made it happen,” said match winner Müller: “Maybe we can knock out the next opponent in the quarter-finals.”

Carolin Simon (4’/79′), Linda Dallmann (9’/90′), Lina Magull (53′), Georgia Stanway (69′) and Saki Kumagai (84′) scored the goals for Bayern in Duisburg.
