DFB Cup: Draw 2nd round: Wolfsburg in Gütersloh, Bavaria in Ingolstadt

As of: 08/22/2022 8:41 p.m

The second round of the women’s DFB Cup has been drawn, with the two favored teams each meeting second division teams. Previously, VfL Bochum had prevailed against Holstein Kiel in the last game of the 1st main round.

VfL Bochum won the last game of the 1st round on Monday evening (08/22/2022) in a duel between two regional league teams at Holstein Kiel 2-1 (1-0). In none of the 16 games did the outsiders – according to league affiliation – prevail. Three second division teams were there in the first round. FC Ingolstadt, in particular, only narrowly won and only prevailed on penalties at Wacker Munich.

All twelve Bundesliga clubs from the previous season and the four best clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga had a bye. These 16 clubs now meet the successful clubs of the 1st round.

Draw 2nd round: Dreamless for Gütersloh, Bayern in Ingolstadt

Immediately after the game on Monday evening, the second round was drawn in Kiel by DFB Vice President Sabine Mammitzsch. In the second round, the clubs were divided into two groups of the same size based on regional criteria when the draw was made.

The second division club FSV Gütersloh, who meet the defending champions VfL Wolfsburg, got a dream. There is a promising game in the south between the second division club FC Ingolstadt and Bayern Munich.

What to consider when it comes to home law

There is a special rule in the women’s cup. Up to and including the quarter-finals, the lower-class club always has home rights. Exceptions are games between two clubs below the 2nd Bundesliga, where the team drawn first always has home rights.
