Arminia Bielefeld has achieved the next big surprise in the DFB Cup and won 2-1 (2-0) against Werder Bremen in the quarter-finals. The third division team is back in the semi-finals for the first time in ten years-at that time they had also prevailed against the green and white in the round of the last 16.

Marius Wörl had taken the Arminia in the lead in the 35th minute, an own goal of Bremen’s Julián Malatini (41st) made the two-goal leadership cheered before the break. The Bundesliga club only woke up in the second half and came to the connecting goal in the 56th minute by Oliver Burke. In added time, the former Bielefeld Amos Pieper hit the crossbar.

Due to the semi -finals, the Bielefeld, who had previously defeated Union Berlin and SC Freiburg, can look forward to an additional bonus of around 3.35 million euros. On Sunday you will find out who you will play against the final participation on April 1st or April 2. Then the semi-finals will be drawn as part of the ARD sports show (6.45 p.m.). The final will increase on May 24th in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

“The opponent will demand everything to us,” said Werder coach Werner before the game on ZDF. And he should get right from the first minute. The Arminia presented itself toxic in the duels and tactically positioned. In the case of a longer Bremen possession, the Bielefelders made the rooms around their own penalty area. In the event of loss of balls in the Werder half, however, they always went to the counterpressing and subsequently prevented the counterattack.

The favorite from the north visually had a little more off the game in the initial phase. The Bremen team, in which attackers Marvin Ducksch had to be injured after half an hour, had real goal chances, but not.

The Arminia became more offensive for that. Defense attorney Joel Felix did not place a header after a short corner. Shortly afterwards Wörl did better. The 20-year-old took the ball on the Bremen penalty area and slam the play equipment from a half-left position into the long corner. The alpi raged.

And the Arminia continued. Bremen’s goalkeeper Michael Zetterer prevented the 2-0 in a free kick by Stefano Russo with a brilliant act, but was powerless shortly afterwards. Malatini promoted a cross from the right side with his shin into his own goal.

After the change of sides, Bremen increased the pressure. At first, Justin Njinmah still failed freely to Arminia keeper Jonas Kersken, then the substitute Burke made hope for the Werder fans who traveled with the Werder fans, who had a Bielefeld mistake.

The game was now completely open. Bremen pushed for the equalization. The Bielefelder turned up quickly and again and sometimes awarded great counter opportunities. In the second minute of stoppage time, they had to take a deep breath again when the former Armin Amos Pieper only hit the crossbar. In the end, they didn’t care: the Arminia brought the narrow lead over time and is in the club history in the semi -finals for the fourth time.
