Sandro Wagner apparently becomes the new coach of Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. This was confirmed by the club on Tuesday of the German press agency. He receives a contract by 2028. Previously, the “Bild” newspaper had already reported. According to the report, both parties agreed after the expulsion of coach Jess Thorup after numerous discussions at the weekend. The contract is to be signed on Wednesday.

According to the “Bild”, Augsburg Managing Director Michael Ströll is said to have done everything for a Wagner obligation. The previous assistant of national coach Julian Nagelsmann had announced his farewell to the DFB team after the final Four of the Nations League at the end of April and has also been interested in Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Leipzig, Bremen, Cologne and clubs from England since then. Hoffenheim is said to have canceled Wagner at the beginning of May, since then, according to “Bild”, people have been dealing with the personnel in Augsburg, but initially had to complete the season analysis with Thorup.

Wagner has from Unterhaching, where he lives with his family, not far to Augsburg. Nevertheless, according to the report, he would like to move to the Fuggerstadt in order to be able to perform his new role optimally. The club managers hoped for a more active and offensive play of play as well as the promotion of young talents from the Wagner obligation.
