Spurred on by Grant Holloway’s marks, he has signed the best performance of his entire career

His compatriot Sha’ Carri Richardson could not achieve the coveted first place

The American Devon Allen became the great protagonist of the meeting in New Yorkninth stage of the Gold World Tour, after winning this Sunday in the final of the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 12.84 seconds, the third best world record of all time.

Spurred on by the presence of the reigning world champion and silver medal at the last Tokyo Olympics, his compatriot Grant Holloway, the athlete from Arizona signed the best performance of his entire career.

And that Allen, who this course had a better time of 13.11 seconds, did not star in the best of starts, but little by little he was climbing positions until he surpassed a Holloway, who finally had to settle for second place with a time of 13.06 seconds.

However, today was Allen’s day, who not only smashed his personal best, the 12.99 he achieved in September 2021 in Zagreb, but was just 4 hundredths away from the legendary world record -12.80- of the also American Arie Merritt, valid since 2012.

A result that, without a doubt, will make Devon Allen, fourth in the last Tokyo Games, doubt his decision to leave track and field to pursue American footballafter signing a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, an NFL team, last April.

But first, apparently this Sunday at the Icahn station in New York, it seems clear that he wants hang a medal at the World Cup which will be played next July in Eugene (United States).

An appointment in which it will be difficult to climb to the top of the podium the great hope of American speed Sha’ Carri Richardson, who was seen surprised in the final of the 100 meters by her compatriot Aleia Hobbs.

Richardson, who already had to settle for second place behind the Olympic champion, Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herahat the Diamond League meeting held last May in Eugene, was outclassed in New York by a lesser athlete.

At least, Sha’ Carri Richardsonwho could not participate in the last Tokyo Games after testing positive for marijuana, signed his best mark of the course, a time of 10.85 secondsinsufficient to snatch the win from Aleia Hobbs, who won with a record of 10.83.

A defeat that Richardson, 22, was able to make up for in the final of the 200 meters in which he participated an hour later and in which the Dallas athlete won with a time of 22.38 seconds her compatriot Tamara Clark, second with 22.62.

A very distant time, however, from the 21.80 that allows her compatriot Abby Steiner to lead the world ranking for the year with a time of 21.80 seconds.

Who did not disappoint was the reigning hectometer world champion, American Christian Coleman, who won the final of the 100-meter dash with a time of 9.92 seconds.

A mark that allowed Coleman, who has a personal best of 9.76, to lower the 10-second barrier for the first time this season in his third 100 of the year.

Sample of the improvement of a Coleman who last May was clearly defeated in Eugene by his compatriots Trayvon Bromell and Fred Kerleythe current Olympic runner-up.

A test in which Noah Lyles finished fourth and it is that, as it became clear again this Sunday in New York, the American shows his best performance in the 200 meters, a distance in which he is also Bronze at the last Tokyo Olympics the reigning world champion.

As demonstrated by the spectacular 19.61 meters with which he won the final of the double hectometer and which placed Lyles in second position in the world ranking of the year, only surpassed by the very young Erriyon Knighton, just 18 years oldwho leads the table with a time of 19.49 seconds.
