Adam Yates took the overall lead after the 3rd stage of the Deutschland Tour. At the top of the Schauinsland, Georg Zimmermann was the best German.

Professional cyclist Adam Yates from the Inoes-Grenadiers team lived up to his role as a favorite on the Deutschland Tour. The Brit won the king’s stage of the tour with the mountain finish on the Schauinsland as a soloist ahead of the Spaniard Pello Bilbao (+0’19 min.) and the Belgian Mauri Vansevenant (+0’28 min.).

Yates thus also took over the red jersey from the overall leader in front of the two competitors.

Zimmermann with chances on the podium

6.4 kilometers before the finish, Yates had shaken off his last pursuer and crossed the finish line on the 1,207 meter high summit on the Schauinsland alone. Behind them, a smaller group around the German professional cyclist Georg Zimmermann broke up on the final kilometers, who was overtaken in the last few meters by Vansevenant and Ruben Guerreiro and finished fifth, 29 seconds behind Yates.

“I’m happy with my performance, the legs rotated well, I had a good rhythm”said Zimmermann in the ARD. “It’s a shame that the two slip past me and take the bonus seconds from me.” The 24-year-old climbing specialist is now fifth overall, just one second behind third.

Geschke honored in Freiburg

Simon Geschke played no role on his local mountain and finished more than three minutes behind. Before the start of the stage in Freiburg, the focus was on Geschke. A month after narrowly missing out on winning the mountain jersey at the Tour de France the choice of Freiburg was celebrated at the registration and after the end of the stage he wrote himself into the golden book of the city of Freiburg.

“It’s a huge honor for me. Especially as a newcomer, it’s proof that you’ve been accepted here and that the city is proud of what you’ve achieved.”said Geschke, who has lived in Breisgau since 2012, of the German Press Agency.

The final stage leads to Stuttgart
