Alaouidi Djabrailov was transferred from the Bruges prison to the AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges on Friday morning. The 31-year-old Russian had to undergo a medical procedure, but took advantage of it to run away. During the change of clothes, the detainee suddenly threatened his guards with a sharp object. Djabrailov forced the guards to hand over the keys to his handcuffs.

At the request of the investigating judge and the public prosecutor’s office, an investigation notice was quickly distributed. Djabrailov wore black shorts, a light-colored polo and sneakers. He currently no longer has a beard, which is still the case in one of the photos distributed. “If you spot him, please do not approach him yourself, but immediately notify the police services,” it said.

The Russian served an effective prison sentence of 40 months for violent theft. His sentence would normally expire in March 2028. Escaping is not punishable in itself, but Djabrailov does in principle risk a new conviction for the offenses he committed in order to escape.
