Although the cabinet focuses on the ‘strictest asylum policy ever’, there is a reasonable chance that criminal asylum seekers are less often in the cell for serious crimes such as theft, abuse or possession of weapons. It is new policy from the Public Prosecution Service (OM): that wants to handle more matters with community service and fines, without the intervention of a judge. For the time being, misunderstood asylum seekers were not eligible for such a ‘penalty decision’ of the OM.
