Desert insult – Bayern fans attack Union boss

The protests against a possible DFL investor continue to worry the fans of the Bundesliga clubs. At FC Bayern’s game against Union Berlin, Munich supporters used a banner to insult people.

Unsightly scenes during FC Bayern’s catch-up game against Union Berlin on Wednesday evening: A large banner hung in the Bayern fan curve during the first half – with a wild insult against Union club boss Dirk Zingler.

“It’s better to be a winner than to criticize the Stasi pig who is courting investors” was written on the banner, next to a picture of Zingler with a pig’s nose and a Stasi uniform. The entrepreneur did his military service in a guard regiment that was at least close to the Stasi and has already defended himself against similar accusations in the past.

The uniform featured a heart with the inscription “Kölmel” and a picture of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Allusions to the controversial investor Michael Kölmel, who has saved the Berlin club from elimination several times since 1998, and the “Iron”‘s move to the Berlin Olympic Stadium for the Champions League games.

There have been protests for weeks

However, the connection is not completely clear. Club fans have been protesting in Bundesliga stadiums for weeks against DFL investor plans. There was also silence in the stands for the first twelve minutes on Wednesday evening at the Allianz Arena as a sign of disapproval of the plan, in which fan representatives were not involved.

After the break, the banner in the south curve disappeared. But it is quite possible that the fan derailment will have consequences. At least the discussion about an investor in the Bundesliga will not stop. Even if in this case it has almost faded into the background because of the personal attack against Union club boss Zingler. The entrepreneur has been President of Köpenicker for almost 20 years.
