Depeche Mode in Berlin: Videos, pictures and setlist from the second evening

“World in My Eyes” instead of “Behind The Wheel”, another acoustic song and “Happy Birthday” again.

On February 15th, Depeche Mode gave their second of three concerts as part of their “Memento Mori” tour at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin. They were there two days earlier and will be on stage again on February 20th. The most beautiful impressions and the set list of the evening can be found here.

Depeche Mode: 23 + 1 songs both times

As on February 13th, Dave Gahan and Martin Gore brought 24 songs, one of which was “Happy Birthday to you” – birthday greetings seem to be on the to-do list at every Depeche Mode concert. The first seven tracks of the set were exactly the same as the opening night, but then the two sang their congratulations, which they only delivered in the encore on the first evening. After “Precious” came “My Favorite Stranger” in ninth place, the first piece that the Mercedes-Benz Arena had not yet seen this year. “Before We Drown” was deleted.

After Martin Gore’s acoustic version of “Strangelove” was so well received, this time there was also a piano version of “Heaven”, for which “Somebody” had to be removed from the set. This was followed by “Ghosts Again”, “I Feel You” and “A Pain That I’m Used To” (Jacques Lu Cont Remix), three pieces that were allowed to stay.

Instead of “Behind the Wheel”, they dedicated “World in My Eyes” to their keyboardist Andrew Fletcher, who died in 2022, at the second Berlin gig, followed by the four (for now) final tracks of the evening – “Black Celebration”, “Stripped”, “John the Revelator” and the fan favorite “Enjoy The Silence”.

Gore and Gahan then started the encore with “Waiting For The Night” including piano accompaniment from Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner. The show finally concluded with “Personal Jesus” two songs later.
