Thanks to Memphis Depay’s record goals, the Netherlands have taken the next step to the 2026 World Cup. With the hits 51 and 52 in the 104th international, the 31-year-old in the World Cup qualification not only ensured a short 3: 2 (2: 2) success in Lithuania. Depay is now also the sole record scorer of the Netherlands. Previously, he shared the record with Robin van Persie, who scored 50 goals. The BondScoach Ronald Koeman Group G leads with ten points. Only the most table after the qualification has its ticket for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

After Depay’s record goal (11th minute) and the 2-0 by fifth by Timber (33.) everything looked like a sovereign success of the Dutch. But Gvidas Gineitis (36th) and Edvinas Girdvainis (43.) equalized before the break for the previously harmless Lithuanians. Then Depay, who plays in Brazil at Corinthians from São Paulo, struck again and made the away win perfect in his record game (63.).
