The Tyrol department store in Innsbruck, formerly belonging to the Signa Group, is about to change owners. A company from the area of Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf wants to take control.
“The Horn Grundbesitz GmbH, based in Liechtenstein, intends to acquire indirectly or directly the sole control of the department store Tyrol operated by Kaufhaus Tyrol GmbH (Austria),” said the Austrian Federal Competition Authority last week. Horn Grundbesitz GmbH belongs to the JC Luxemburg Holding SCSP, which, according to the Austrian medium of Kurier by Patrick Cloppenburg, the owner of the Düsseldorf fashion chain Peek & Cloppenburg.
Until recently, Cloppenburg and his sister Catharina Cloppenburg shared the co-chair of the P&C mother company JC Switzerland Holding. However, former Central manager Stefano Della Valle has been at the top of the company since the end of April. This means that the Cloppenburg family is no longer represented in the corporate management of the P&C mother.
For Patrick Cloppenburg, the Tyrol department store is no unknown terrain: the fashion chain named after him was represented there with a branch until 2019. As the Tyrolean ORF reports, negotiations on new rental conditions with the then owner Signa failed. The branch was then closed.
The Tyrol department store is located in the heart of Innsbruck city center and offers more than 50 retail space over five floors on around 33,000 square meters. The building was taken over by Signa founder René Benko in 2004. The original department store was demolished and rebuilt under the architectural direction of David Chipperfield in cooperation with Dieter Mathoi.
