Debacle at the start
German basketball world champion experiences nightmare debut

A few days ago, Dennis Schröder became part of a trade in the NBA. On Thursday he was on the court for his new team for the first time.
German basketball world champion Dennis Schröder’s debut for his new NBA club Golden State Warriors went terribly wrong. In his first appearance with the team from San Francisco, Schröder clearly lost 93:144 to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night German time.
Coach Steve Kerr had left it open until the end whether he would send Schröder, whose move from the Brooklyn Nets was announced at the end of last week, onto the floor from the start. The 31-year-old was actually allowed to start alongside Stephen Curry, but only managed five points. Curry also only had two points. In the Western Conference, the Warriors are in tenth place after the clear defeat against the second-place team.
“It was just a humbling evening all around,” said Kerr: “Dennis looked like a player on a new team.” It is very difficult to change in the middle of the season and get used to a team.
Schröder is supposed to fill the gap in San Francisco left by De’Anthony Melton after a torn cruciate ligament. The guard also has better prospects for the play-offs in San Francisco than at his previous club in Brooklyn.
