Cologne Haie cheers after the 5:2 win against Schwenninger Wild Wings

As of: December 28, 2025 9:13 p.m

The Kölner Haie remain the measure of all things in the DEL. In the end, they made things unnecessarily exciting against the Schwenninger Wild Wings.

After five wins in a row and with the lead in the table, the Cologne team went into the game against the Schwenninger Wild Wings as the clear favorites – and they lived up to the role. In the end they had to tremble again with the 6:5 (3:0, 2:2, 1:3) success.

The guests from Schwenningen traveled to the cathedral city with eight bankruptcies in a row. Therefore, they started with the plan to initially keep the puck within their own ranks and only allow a few attacks from the Sharks. But this tactic was overthrown after just three minutes. Tanner Kero elegantly deflected the target with the tip of his stick and gave guest goalie Michael Bitzer no chance.

Sharks are superior in all respects

The sharks were now at operating temperature. At first Maximilian Kammerer narrowly missed the goal, but he did better on the second attempt. After the winger had prevailed against two men, he scored halfway to make it 2-0. Only five minutes had been played.

Even after that, the Cologne team were significantly closer to the third goal than the Wild Wings were to the connection. And actually the score was 3-0 before the first third break. Dominik Bokk took advantage of the Haie’s double advantage situation to take a comfortable lead in the 16th minute. The guests, who had been in poor form to date, only made sporadic – and very transparent – attempts to attack.

Cologne counters Schwenninger Connection hit

They tied the knot in the second third Cologne sharks seamlessly to the performance from before the break. Once again it was Kammerer who made it 4-0 after less than three minutes of play. The Wild Wings, who needed a minute to get into the formation, were also unable to take advantage of a two-minute penalty against Cologne’s Juhani Tyrväinen.

But just as Cologne was complete again, the first goal was scored for the guests. Tylor Spink put the puck in the goal from a very tight angle. The connection was not undeserved at this point, because in the middle section the shot ratio was 6:1 in favor of Steve Walker’s team.

However, the Wild Wings initially failed to catch up. Instead, the home team, in the person of Frederik Storm, restored the old gap after 33 minutes. But unlike in the first round, the Schwenningen team continued to fight this time – and they also used their power play. Three Haie players failed to get the puck out of the danger zone. Alexander Karachun thanked him and scored from close range to make it 2:5.

Three thirds, three quick Cologne goals

In the final third, Cologne picked up the pace again. After 24 seconds, Brady Austin was denied by Bitzer, but less than two minutes later the puck found its way into the net. Bitzer initially held up well, but then became a little disoriented. Storm took advantage of this and finally pushed the game device over the line.

This time the Schwenningers came back again. Felix Maegaard Scheel scored eleven minutes before the end, then Ben Marshall (57th) and Thomas Larkin (60th) even reduced the score to 5:6. But in the end, the weak first third proved to be too big a burden for the guests, who also lost their third duel with Cologne.

Cologne to Annual financial statements against the Roosters

On the last match day of this calendar year, the Haie have a NRW duel waiting for them on Tuesday. At 7:30 p.m. they will play against the Iserlohn Roosters. Schwenningen welcomes ERC Ingolstadt at the same time.
