The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven extended their lead in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a win at Adler Mannheim.
After two defeats in a row, league top scorer Jan Urbas (18th) scored the decisive goal to make it 2-1 (2-1, 0-0, 0-0).
The Eisbären Berlin remain in second place, and after a turbulent 5:4 (2:0, 1:3, 1:1, 1:0) after extra time over the Kölner Haie, they are now three points behind the league leaders. Manuel Wiederer scored the winning goal for the nine-time DEL champions in the 19th second of extra time.
Behind them are the Straubing Tigers, who lost to the Frankfurter Löwen 2:3 (1:0, 1:0, 0:2, 0:0, 0:1) after a penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, there was renewed celebration at the bottom of the table. Bottom team Iserlohn Roosters won 2-0 (2-0, 0-0, 0-0) at ERC Ingolstadt and celebrated their sixth win in the last seven games. As a result, the Roosters shortened the gap to Düsseldorfer EG to three points. The Rhinelanders were successful against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 6:5 (2:2, 3:3, 0:0, 1:0) after extra time.
The Grizzlys Wolfsburg had previously won 2-1 (1-0, 1-0, 0-1) against the Schwenninger Wild Wings in a direct battle for a place in the top six. Wolfsburg is now in seventh place, level on points with Schwenningen (5th) and Cologne (6th). The first six teams qualify directly for the quarter-finals of the play-offs after the end of the main round.
