The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven have moved to second place in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), at least for the time being.
Last season’s runner-up inflicted the Kölner Haien’s third defeat in a row with 4:1 (2:0, 0:1, 2:0) in the first game of matchday 30 on Thursday. Phillip Bruggisser (6th) and Markus Vikingstad (9th) gave the game a clear direction early on.
Bremerhaven too strong in the final third
Cologne shortened the score at the beginning of the middle third through Frederik Storm (22′), but in the final period the hosts made everything clear through Ross Mauermann (54′) and Nino Kinder (58′). In the top duel on Boxing Day, league leaders ERC Ingolstadt will welcome former champions EHC Red Bull Munich in the Bavarian duel from 4:30 p.m.
