On Thursday (December 8th) Deichkind shared “Geradeaus”, the second single of the upcoming work NEUES VOM DAUERZUSTAND along with the music video. Appearing futuristic, they address constant social progress and refer to past political events.
The new record will be released on February 17, 2023 and has already been heralded by the first release entitled “In Der Natur”. Their latest, seventh album WER SADT DASN? was published in 2019.
“You ask ‘Straight?’, the answer is ‘Yes!'”
In the music video, the yodel appears, who was also seen in the clip for the previous single on his stand-up paddle. In the background, the ship “Ever Given” passes by, which blocked the Suez Canal for days due to a transverse position in 2021 and stopped shipping. Always forward, never standing still, even if the “Ever Green” blocks a channel for days. This is underlined by lines such as “Don’t look to the left or right, it doesn’t matter, the direction is right” and “You ask ‘Straight ahead?’, the answer is ‘Yes!'”.
The play presents a dystopian view of the future, which is primarily driven by self-optimization and ongoing mechanization. As a further metaphor, Deichkind singer Philipp Maria Grütering imitates Matthias Rust’s undeterred “peace flight” in the clip, which landed in 1987 with his plane in what was then the Soviet Union.
