The world championship of biathlon juniors in 2028 takes place in Ridnaun in northern South Tyrol. This decision was made at a meeting of the World Association IBU in Salzburg.
The event will increase from February 21 to 27, 2028 in the Biathlon Center in Maiern, as the organizers said.
“We are pleased that the Junior World Championship 2028 will take place in Ridnaun. My team and I worked on it, we knew how to convince with our application and in the end also received the contract,” said Maria Theresia Wurzer, President of ASV Ridnaun.
She added: “We know how an international event with numerous biathletes can be organized, we have proven this several times in the past. Because we are a great team, I am also convinced that we will easily master this junior World Cup. Nevertheless, we are aware that a big challenge is waiting for us and we accept it with great humility.”
Biathlon: Not the first junior World Cup in Ridnaun
In fact, Ridnaun is not an unknown pavement in the biathlon scene, on the contrary: in addition to three European championships (1996, 2011 and 2018) and a replacement World Cup for Oberhof in 1993, stages of the IBU Cup and the IBU Junior Cup have been taking place there for a long time. In 2002 the Junior World Cup also made a guest appearance in Ridnaun.
At that time, today’s Austrian World Cup star Simon Eder won the gold medal in singles. Silver went to Michael Rösch, who won the Olympic victory with the German men’s relay in Turin in 2006 and is now a TV expert.
The biathlon Junior World Cup takes place annually in spring. From February 23 to March 8, 2026, the event in Arber rises in the Bavarian Forest, the following year in Jakuszyce, Poland, after which it is Ridnaun.
