The fear of losing Debbie. It was the only emotion that Django van den Brand (24) felt from Eindhoven when his dog Debbie ran away on Tuesday for fear when he walked her out. Two -year -old Tibetan Mastiff was saved a little later from the highway near Eindhoven by four men, including Henri Stuiver. He was on their way home with three colleagues and they didn’t hesitate for a second, Henri said earlier.
Django is only the owner of Debbie for a week and a half. In their own words, a very sweet, gentle and quiet animal, which he had just bought through Marktplaats. “I thought she was getting used to the home situation, I’m going to a loose field with her. There she is inside the fences.” But Debbie, who is sometimes a bit anxious, was shocked by something, suddenly jumped over the fence and ran away in a panic.
Van den Brand set his mind to zero and went after her. He lost her for more than one and a half to two hours and he was looking for her. Until he was called by the animal shelter in Eindhoven. Debbie was brought there and at the shelter they could immediately read her chip. “I was very happy that she was justified so quickly,” says Django on Thursday. “When I got that phone call, I almost burst into tears.”

‘Whole relief’
Until the phone call he felt anxious, afraid that something would happen to his debbie. “I was afraid of losing her or that she would be hit.” The phone call caused a whole relief. “I didn’t know how fast I had to get to the shelter. I was there within half an hour.”
In the shelter she appeared to have a fever and threatened to overheat. “That’s why she walked very quietly to me and she went to sleep at home.” When he was hugging Debbie at home again on the couch, he received the message from Omroep Brabant about his dog from various people. “They wondered,” How is that possible? You are so good for that animal, how can you lose her? “
Shocked
Now two days later, the Tibetan Mastiff was able to equip and she is doing well again. “She walks along again when we are walking. But she has more trouble with going outside. She tries to pull back inside. I notice that she finds that exciting.”
The brand new dog owner is quite shocked by the highway adventure of his four -legged friend. “Especially since I heard that she was walking on the highway. That is half an hour’s walk from my house,” says Django. He himself lives in the Eindhoven district of Gestel. “I was the most shocked: that she has traveled such a great distance in half an hour.”
Reaction of animal shelter
In the Tuesday evening article, Debbie’s rescuers say that the animal ambulance was too busy to come and help. Animal shelter Pink complains on Thursday that the animal ambulance could not mean anything to the fled dog at that time. “An ambulance is for the sick animals,” explains manager Alma van Dorenmalen.
“The ambulance personnel cannot just jump out of the ambulance, which is dangerous. Running behind a dog that is in a panic also has a counterproductive effect.” The animal shelter therefore works together with other parties, such as Animal Care, who can assist better in it. “They can help with situations like that.” The help of ordinary citizens is also regularly called in.
