In September 2024, Muriel Furrer died as a result of a fall. But not all questions have yet been answered. Her parents hire a lawyer.

More than a year after the fatal accident at the 2024 World Cycling Championships in Switzerland, Muriel Furrer’s parents are still looking for answers. The young athlete died in a fall at the age of just 18 – she was only discovered after around 100 minutes.

Christine Brand Furrer and Reto Furrer want to know what exactly happened that day. They have now sought legal help for this. Even if her daughter doesn’t return as a result, Christine Brand Furrer emphasized in an interview with CH Media: “It is important to us that it is determined who has fulfilled their duty and who perhaps has not fulfilled their responsibility.”

After her accident, Muriel Furrer lay seriously injured in the forest for almost 100 minutes before she was found by chance. The family cannot let go of why she remained undiscovered for so long. “We are not yet satisfied with what has come out of the investigations by the public prosecutor and police so far,” clarified mother Christine. A first medical report has been available since spring 2025; both the public prosecutor’s office and the family are silent about its content.

The Furrers demand that the exact course of the accident be further investigated, as they explained to CH Media. Together with a lawyer, they work to answer open questions. “We want to have the delayed notice of the accident and the long recovery time explained. We also don’t know whether the safety concept at the World Cup was sufficient,” said Christine Brand Furrer.

However, it is still unclear whether the public prosecutor’s office will actually take action again and carry out new investigations. The Zurich public prosecutor’s office did not want to comment, but expects the proceedings to be concluded in the first three months of 2026.
