De Sutter opens some federal government vacancies only to persons with disabilities | Work

Vacancies only intended for persons with a disability: with this measure, Minister of Civil Service Petra De Sutter (Groen) wants to ensure that enough civil servants with a disability work in the federal government. This can be read in the Mediahuis newspapers.

In addition to age and physical characteristics, a disability is the main cause of discrimination in the labor market. This is evident from research in Flanders and from practical tests in Ghent and Antwerp.

For years, the government has set itself the target of filling 3 percent of all administrative jobs with people with disabilities. She just hasn’t been able to do that for quite some time now.

3 percent

By far the most striking measure to achieve the 3 percent is the launch of vacancies that are entirely reserved for people with a disability. These are jobs such as a desk clerk, file manager or facility worker. Although each Federal Public Service may fill this in autonomously.

It is certain that people without a disability cannot apply for such positions. The measure has actually been in force since the end of last year and applies until the target is reached.
