Normally the TT Circuit in Assen is the scene of fast engines and the smell of burned rubber. But on June 21, a lot of calories are burned in Assen and the surrounding area. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the TT races and the 50-year anniversary of the accompanying festival, a unique event is organized: the TT Marathon. The current circuit and the two former circuits in Rolde and Hooghalen together make 42 kilometers and 195 meters for the experienced runner.
The iconic distance is only for three percent of the runners, and with that the running of a marathon remains a very special achievement. But what is really involved? What are the dangers of running such a distance and can a semi sporty presenter of RTV Drenthe complete this challenge to a successful end? Tommas Eggens (33) will find out because he will be at the start of the TT Marathon on June 21.
In this episode, Tommas is introduced to the route he is going to walk. Organizer Stefan Zevenberg is delighted with the route: ‘The course is unique! We link the three historic circuits to the marathon. ” The route starts on the current TT circuit and runs via Assen to Rolde. From the place where the very first race was organized in 1925, the runners go to Hooghalen via Nieuwlande and Amen. And according to experienced Marathonloper Stefan Zevenberg, the well -known man with the hammer awaits: ‘After thirty kilometers your body will respond, your head will respond and then it will be tough. It is a very tough trip, but that is why that medal is also the most beautiful you can have in your closet. “
