David Jude Jolicoeur is dead. The rapper who co-founded De La Soul in the 1980s and best known by his stage name Trugoy the Dove died on February 12, 2023 at the age of 54. report this various US media. His management confirmed his death to Pitchfork. Accordingly, Jolicoeur had been suffering from heart problems for a long time. However, an official cause of death was not given.
Jolicoeur was born on September 21, 1968. He formed De La Soul in Long Island in 1988 with the rappers. Her debut album 3 FEET HIGH AND RISING, released a year later, is considered one of the most influential hip-hop records of her time. Jolicoeur talked about this milestone in an interview with Billboard a while back. He said: “If the album were released today, the hip-hop world wouldn’t get it. It would probably be too soft and obnoxious for a lot of people.” He continued, “Today, hip hop is about what you wear, who you impress, how much money you have, how much you spend, and what’s in the bag that you take with you you carry around What 3 FEET HIGH AND RISING meant back then wouldn’t mean anything now.”
De La Soul released nine studio albums in her career, most recently AND THE ANONYMOUS NOBODY… in 2016. Their legendary early works – in addition to the debut and its successor DE LA SOUL IS DEAD – were not available digitally in the stream for years. That should change at the beginning of March, with her song “Eye Know” recently starting.
