South Korea joined the list of teams qualified for the Davis Cup finals this Sunday by defeating Belgium 3-2 in the tie played at the Olympic Tennis Center in Seoul.

The fifth point was achieved by Seong-Chan Hong, number 237 of the ATP, who beat the Belgian Zizou Bergs, 115, by 6-3 and 7-6 (4).

The South Koreans thus completed a comeback that seemed unthinkable when Bergs himself and Belgian number one David Goffin won their two individual matches on the first day. But the doubles and the last two points fell to the local side.

Ji-Sung Nam / Min-Kyu Song beat Sander Gille / Jordan Vliegen 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (5) and Soowoo Kwon (61 ATP) defeated Goffin (41) 3-6, 6- 1 and 6-3, before Hong completed the comeback.

Korea thus joins teams from Switzerland, France, Serbia, Sweden, the United States and Great Britain, also winners of their playoffs and qualified for the final group stage. The two finalists from the last edition, Canada, champion, and Australia, runner-up, and two guests, Spain and Italy, await them there.

The qualifiers Croatia-Austria (2-0), Netherlands-Slovakia (2-0), Finland-Argentina (1-1), Portugal-Czech Republic (0-2) and Chile-Kazakhstan still have to be decided this Sunday. (1-1), the best of five games.
