The indiscretion was leaked in recent days in captain Filippo Volandri’s conference, now it is official: Lorenzo Musetti will not play in the Davis Cup. The announcement came shortly after the defeat, and the consequent end of his ATP Finals, of the Italian against world no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. A decision that was in the air, and which Lorenzo confirmed: “Given my physical condition, I spoke with captain Filippo Volandri. We decided that also due to my family situation I won’t play Davis Cup this year”. In fact, we remember that Musetti’s partner, Veronica Confalonieri, is pregnant with their second child, Leandro. Which should be born next week, during the Davis Cup.

At this point, excluding Sinner and Musetti, the Italian n.1 at the Final Eight in Bologna will be Flavio Cobolli. With him there should be Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Berrettini and the doubles team (qualified for the semi-final of the specialty ATP Finals) made up of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. Captain Volandri will have three singles players, in the right mix of enthusiasm and experience supported by good adaptability to the surface, for two places. Reigning two-time champions Italy will make their debut on Wednesday 19 November at 4pm against Austria, for a place in the semi-final (Friday 21st) against France and Belgium.
