The Roman wins 6-1 6-3 in just over an hour and after Berrettini’s success over Rodionov he gives us the match against Belgium, Friday 21 November at 4pm
Italy flies to the Davis Cup semifinals. After Matteo Berrettini’s initial point, Flavio Cobolli took care of giving the final 2-0 against Austria (the double was useless and will not be played). On Friday, at 4pm, the Azzurri will return to the field facing Belgium, who won yesterday over France. The team led by Filippo Volandri, fresh from two consecutive triumphs in Malaga, starts off on the right foot in the Final 8 in Bologna. In front of 10 thousand spectators at the Super Tennis Arena, set up at the Fair, Italy respected the odds, without giving up a set. And if Berrettini, against Rodionov, risked prolonging the match to the third set, Cobolli literally demolished Filip Misolic: 6-1 6-3 in an hour and 5 minutes. The Italian number 1, technical leader after the resignations of Sinner and Musetti, showed the Bolognese public all the qualities that made him one of the best prospects on the world circuit. It was a beautiful and intense season for Cobolli: 2025 saw him enter the top 30 for the first time and climb to 17th place in July (he is now 22nd), thanks to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the first two ATP titles on his list, the 500 in Hamburg and the 250 in Bucharest. Flavio arrived unloaded in the last tournaments, but Davis is Davis…
THE MATCH
—
Solid on serve – 8 aces, zero double faults, 79% of points won with the first serve and 55% with the second serve – the 23-year-old Roman was always aggressive with his groundstrokes, giving very little to the Austrian, n.79 ATP (his best ranking). At 4-1 he recovered from 0-40 with three winners and canceled another break point with an ace, to then close 6-1. In the second set he broke Misolic’s serve in the second game and canceled a break point still at 4-1, completing the job with 6-3.
