Darmstadt 98 instead of FC St. Pauli: VfB Stuttgart’s Luca Pfeiffer to Lilien

17 second division goals in 2021/22

Newly promoted SV Darmstadt 98 have strengthened their attack again and brought Luca Pfeiffer back. The 26-year-old, who contributed 17 goals and six assists in the 2nd division for the “Lilien” in 2021/22 on loan from FC Midtjylland, comes to the Böllenfalltor on loan from VfB Stuttgart. Most recently, he was also associated with FC St. Pauli.

Darmstadt sports director Carsten Wehlmann said: “We have always communicated openly that we are still looking for a player for the offensive area. We are very pleased that the opportunity has arisen to bring Luca back to Darmstadt. The fact that the loan could be realized for our club is a great signal and at the same time a sign of our ambitions for the coming season. We would like to thank VfB Stuttgart for the fair and constructive discussions. We are convinced that Luca in the Lilien jersey can build on the performances that he has already shown here.”

Pfeiffer switched from Denmark to VfB a year ago for 2.85 million euros, but was unable to build on his strong performances for Darmstadt. He only scored two goals and two assists in 24 games for the Swabians, and his market value has now fallen to EUR 1.7 million. Regarding his return to the “Lilien”, Pfeiffer said: “After my wonderful year in Darmstadt, I of course continued to follow the Lilien closely last season and was very happy about the promotion. I’ve always been in contact with a lot of people in the club and I’m really happy to be wearing the lily on my chest again from now on. A huge challenge awaits us in the Bundesliga, but I’ve seen for myself that you can achieve a lot as a team in Darmstadt.”
