Danish competition as a springboard for ambitious Jamie Jacobs from Purmerend: “Something new”

The transfer violence of the past few weeks is over. One football player signed a new contract literally a minute before the deadline. The other did so at an earlier stage. Jamie Jacobs, for example, made the move to Denmark in mid-August. The midfielder from Purmerend continues his career at Viborg FF. “I think the way of playing football suits me here.”

“We have been in contact with Viborg for a while,” says Jamie Jacobs from Denmark about his new club. He signed a contract for two seasons with the current number eight in the Danish league. “After four years in Cambuur, I thought it was nice. And I wanted to go to a new competition where other eyes are focused on you.”

Ambitions

“I was actually hoping for the English Championship or the Second Bundesliga in Germany”, Jacobs is honest about his ambitions. “There was also some interest from those competitions, but the overall picture was not quite right. For example, I want to have the feeling that they really want me and that was not the case now.”

Just before leaving for Denmark, Jacobs kept his condition up at Jong AZ. The 25-year-old midfielder played for the Alkmaar club for many years in the past and the club’s policy allows former players to maintain their condition. Jacobs is now on two games for his new club Viborg.

“I really wanted something new”

As a youth player, Jacobs played for FC Volendam and the club from the Vissersdorp is around the corner from the Purmerender. Plus the plagued Wijdbroeken could use some reinforcements. Still, he did not see a return. “I really wanted something new.”

“Last year, Viborg finished fourth in the league and a number of guys then made a nice step. Right back Anton Gaaei, for example, was recently bought by Ajax. I can envision such a scenario. Play one or two seasons here and then step up.”

Tomorrow Jacobs and Viborg will visit national champions FC Copenhagen.
