Cyclocross, Van der Poel world champion. Van Aert gives way in the sprint

Splendid duel on the ten laps of the Hoogerheide circuit: the Dutchman surprises the Belgian arch-rival and conquers his fifth world title

Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel wins his fifth cyclo-cross world title at his home circuit of Hoogerheide in one hour and 7 minutes. Second is the eternal rival Wout Van Aert (Belgium), beaten in the sprint and remained with three titles. Last year he won neither of them simply because they weren’t there.

Van der Poel therefore regained the iris after the triumphs of 2016, 2019 as well as 2020 and 2021 and equaled the Italian Renato Longo and the French André Dufraisse. Third was Belgian Eli Iserbyt who overtook Lars Van der Haar on the last lap.
