The third stage of the Poland tour is overshadowed by the misfortune of the Italian Filippo Baroncini. The 23-year-old apparently seriously injured himself.

The Italian bike professional Filippo Baroncini suffered a severe fall on the tour of the Poland and is in the artificial coma. Tour-de-France winner Tadej Pogačar team-mate fell around 22 kilometers before the finish on the third stage and suffered several facial and collarbone fractures. According to “Cyclingnews”, the 23-year-old is to be brought to Italy for an operation. In order to enable transport, the doctors put it into the artificial coma.

The mass fall occurred in a smaller group. The racing jury interrupted the race for 15 minutes. Pole Rafal Majka and the Italian Antonio Tiberi were also involved in the accident.

The Poland tour has been overshadowed by serious accidents in the past. In 2019, the Belgian Bjorg Lambrecht died on a concrete structure after an impact. The following year, the Dutch Dylan Groenewegen pushed his compatriot Fabio Jakobsen into a barrier in the target sprint of the first stage. Jakobsen was in the artificial coma at the time, lost almost all of the teeth and had to be operated on several times. Groenewegen was blocked for nine months.
