Tour specialist Emanuel Buchmann is expected to start on the Deutschland Tour starting on Wednesday, while the two tour participants Lennard Kämna and Maximilian Schachmann will be absent from the home game.

Buchmann, who had to miss the Tour of Spain at short notice due to a urinary tract infection, leads the six-man squad of the German Bora-hansgrohe racing team.

Kämna and Schachmann pause

“He prepared himself well for the Vuelta with altitude training. If it works somehow and he’s healthy, we’d like to use it for the Germany Tour,” sporting director Rolf Aldag justified Buchmann’s nomination. Kämna, who had trumped on the tour, and Schachmann, on the other hand, were recently ill and should take a break.

In addition to Buchmann, last year’s German winners Nils Politt and Anton Palzer as well as the three Austrians Marco Haller, Patrick Konrad and Felix Großschartner are in the Bora squad. Haller surprisingly won the Hamburg Cyclassics on Sunday, duping the Belgian superstar Wout van Aert.

The Deutschland Tour starts on Wednesday in Weimar and ends on Sunday in Stuttgart.
