Tor doesn’t count
Referee whistles too early: penalty vertebrae in the 2nd league

Fortuna Düsseldorf scores a goal against SC Paderborn. But the goal doesn’t count. The reason is strange. The trouble of the Rhinelander in turn only briefly lasts.
A curious scene in the 2nd Bundesliga heats the minds at the professionals of Fortuna Düsseldorf – but only for a short moment. Because just a minute later, the players of the promotion candidate can cheer.
What happened? In the away game at SC Paderborn (2-1), the guests led 1-0 with a goal from Danny Schmidt from the first half. In the second round, Düsseldorf then offered the chance to screw the result up. Because: referee Dr. Robert Kampka had decided on a penalty. Fortuna’s Dawid Kownacki fell after a clear foul by SCP professional Laurin Curda.
The problem: only a second after Kownacki had been hit by Curda, the ball jumped to Düsseldorf’s defender Jamil Siebert. He hammered the ball under the crossbar and subsequently turned to cheer. But the goal was not-the incomprehension of the Fortuna players, who immediately presented Kampka. But the referee had just whistled too early. The scene was already interrupted, the gate was accordingly invalid.
In short, however, the trouble about the situation was evaporated again. The penalty for Düsseldorf was still there. Kownacki took care of the matter. The pole remained freezing cold, Paderborn’s goalkeeper Manuel Riemann lost and scored 2-0. Kownacki, who had only returned from Bremen to Düsseldorf in summer, scored his twelfth goal this season.
In the end, Paderborn was able to shorten, but the Fortuna brought the result over time – and is suddenly back in the promotion race. Düsseldorf is in fourth place with 47 points. SV Elversberg on Relegationplatz Drei also has 47 points in the account.
