Various attacks in the final phase gave Spaniard Ivan Romeo victory at the 3rd stage at the criterium du Dauphine and the yellow jersey. Florian Lipowitz was also ahead for a long time.
The driver from the Movistar team secured the stage victory on Tuesday (June 10th) on the hilly 207.2 kilometers from Briude to Charantonay and thus took the Italian Jonathan Milan the jersey of the overall leader.
Romeo in the yellow jersey, Lipowitz fourth
The second was 14 seconds behind Harold Tejada from XDS Astana, the Frenchman Louis Barré (Intermarché Wanty) finished third, Florian Lipowitz from Bora-Hansgrohe was fourth. In the overall ranking, the 21-year-old Romeo now leads ahead of Barré (17 seconds), the Colombian Tejada (18) and Lipowitz (24), fifth is Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck, 29 seconds).
Romeo successfully attacks
Around 10 kilometers before the finish, an outlier field had settled, from which Lipowitz in particular repeatedly attacked, but could never really break away. The Romeo, who was also aggressive, was more lucky with his attempts and was alone five kilometers before the finish. Barré, Lipowitz and Tejada tried again to catch up with the Spaniard, but “only” were able to leave the rest of the outliers behind and so Romeo brought victory over the line. In the sprint between the three pursuers, Tejada had the upper hand just ahead of his colleagues from France and Germany.
