November 21, 2025 – 7:05 a.mReading time: 2 minutes

The decision in the duel with the South Americans comes in doubles – and the match between the Germans Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz will be dramatic.
The German tennis team led by top player Alexander Zverev has reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup. The selection of the German Tennis Association (DTB) won the quarterfinals against Argentina at the final round in Bologna 2-1 after a real battle of nerves. This means the team still has a chance of Germany’s first triumph in the prestigious team competition in 32 years.
The victory was confirmed at 1:03 a.m. after the final doubles match, which Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz won 4:6, 6:4, 7:6 (12:10) against Andrés Molteni and Horacio Zeballos. The German duo fended off three match points.
Zverev had previously made it 1-1 in his Davis Cup comeback after a break of almost three years and gave Germany the chance to advance. The world number three won 6:3, 7:6 (7:3) against Francisco Cerundolo. Jan-Lennard Struff (35) narrowly lost to Tomás Martín Etcheverry 6:7 (3:7), 6:7 (7:9) at the start.
Germany has been waiting for a Davis Cup triumph since 1993. The chances of a fourth win this year are also good thanks to Zverev’s participation. The Hamburger could also end what he described as an “incredibly unsatisfactory” season on a positive note.
Germany will face Spain in the semi-finals on Saturday. The Iberians beat the Czech Republic 2-1 even without world number one Carlos Alcaraz, who had to cancel his start in Bologna at short notice due to thigh problems.
Defending champions Italy had previously qualified for the semi-finals thanks to a 2-0 win against Austria and Belgium thanks to their 2-0 win against France. Italy and Belgium will determine the first finalist on Friday.
