UA good cream for dry skin on the face and body is an absolute must have in this season of early cold weather. «It is really essential to use specific creams to combat dryness, but making the right choices: the skin on the face has different needs from the skin on the body», he explains Rosanna Dambraskin coach Image Skincare.

Because the skin becomes dry

Dry skin, or xerosis, is a condition in which the skin appears dehydrated, rough, not very elastic and fragile. «It can be temporary or persistent and can also show discomfort, itching, flaking, redness and small cracks. Discomforts that indicate a fragile and compromised skin barrier, which is no longer able to retain hydration and nourishment”, says the expert.

It affects both the skin of the face and body, but with small differences. «When it appears dry and chapped, it is always necessary to hydrate and nourish the skin to restore a normal condition, but it is always advisable to use different cosmetics. The dryness of the face, in fact, is different from that of the body due to the different functions of the skin and the stresses to which it is exposed”, explains Rosanna Dambra.

«The skin epidermis of the face is thin, exposed during the day to external agents such as wind and sun, and has a faster metabolism. The skin of the body, however, is thicker and more resistant, and is protected by the clothing and footwear that covers it. Consequently, each area requires targeted treatments.”

Cream for dry facial skin: how it works

The tendency to dehydrate is a typical tendency of dry facial skin. «This phenomenon can also be accentuated in certain climatic conditions, intense cold and wind, which dry up the skin’s hydrolipidic reserves», explains the expert.

«The ideal cream for dry facial skin must be designed to nourish deeply, but without clogging the skin pores. Soft creams and dense emulsions for the day should be preferred, while thicker consistencies are helpful for the night.”

The active ingredients to be favored are above all hyaluronic acid and panthenol. «They maintain hydration and softness, while niacinamide, allantoin, aloe vera and bisabolol are the components that support the skin barrier, counteract irritation and keep redness under control».

Cream for dry body skin

The mechanisms that regulate hydration and nourishment are common to the skin in general. While the skin is exposed to the action of external agents, that of the body is subject to rubbing with the fabrics and leather of footwear, for example, which can generate widespread dryness or localized thickening on elbows and knees for example”, explains Rosanna Dambra.

«The creams recommended for dry body skin must favor highly nourishing agents such as jojoba, almond, coconut and avocado vegetable oils and deeply restructuring shea and cocoa butters».

When the dry skin of the body tends to thicken, however, precious help is provided by one agent in particular: urea. «This active ingredient acts mainly as a hydrator and humectant, but in higher concentrations it helps to remove dead cells, smooth the skin and counteract thickening».
