Country tunes in Emmen: ‘We struck the right chord’

The distinctive sounds of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash will reverberate across the festival site tomorrow during Roots, Ribs & Brews in Emmen. Under the smoke of stadium De Oude Meerdijk, stage builders, catering employees and the permanent crew of organizer Maik Reuvers are sweating, because tomorrow it has to be perfect.

A festival with roots music. According to Reuvers, this was still lacking in this region. Until now. “You notice that we have struck the right chord, because the festival is completely sold out in no time”, the organizer beams.

Reuvers has experience in the field of events. For years he has been organizing the popular punk and metal festival ‘Pitfest’ on Erica. He jumps in at the deep end with Roots, Ribs & Brews. “I had my own employment agency for fifteen years, but I have now sold it because I want to focus on organizing festivals like this.” The roots festival must therefore become Reuvers’ showpiece.

“I’m already thirsty”, Reuvers jokes when the specialty beer truck arrives. “What can people expect on Saturday? A good piece of music anyway, but we also have specialty beers and delicious food. We have set up a ‘Kids Area’ for the children, where they can get and play tasty churros.”

During the day there is wonderful music from all sides. From alt-country and bluegrass to americana and a little bit of blues. “It’s just going to be a chill, relaxed Western day”, Reuvers looks ahead.
