Cornellà-Castellón incidents: “I heard screams, noises, I saw bottles break and chairs fly”

Already in their respective homes, and somewhat calmer, the fans of CD Castellón who on Sunday traveled to Catalan lands to witness live the First Federation clash that pitted their team against UE Cornellà, and which ended in a goalless draw , they still cannot believe what happened upon their arrival in the vicinity of the RCD Stadium, where a group of violent supporters awaited them “with bats and sticks”.

From the Mossos d’Esquadra they explain that these incidents occurred before the match, specifically in the vicinity between the Splau shopping center and the RCD Espanyol stadium – where UE Cornellà plays its home games this season -, and they were settled with a single person slightly injured and that he did not want to file a complaint. Thus, the match could be played without incident, although the Mossos escorted the Castellón fans as they left the stadium “to avoid further incidents.”

However, from the Federation of Peñas del Castellón (Fedpecas), in charge of organizing the displacement, three people were affected: a follower of Castellón who received a punch and his glasses were broken; another required medical assistance with a cut on the head; and the aforementioned woman, who was not a follower of Castellón, but she was passing by, and she was pushed, she lay on the ground for half an hour and was later transferred to a medical center.

The Mossos d’Esquadra they investigate the event to clarify who caused itbecause the aggressors were hooded and it is unknown which club they are fans of.

Some of the fans who were involved in the despicable events –there were affected from both teams– recounted for Mediterranean, newspaper that belongs to the Prensa Ibérica group as well as this medium, how they lived it

Samuel. Castellón follower. “A few fans were arriving at the shopping center and suddenly we saw several Castellón fans running close to us. When we saw the group of them arrive with sticks and stones, we quickly ran into a restaurant and were inside for about five minutes. calmed down we went out. A big scare. ”

Jorge. Castellón follower. “I was in the service of a bar, when I came out I heard screams, noises and bottles breaking and I saw chairs fly. Along with my colleagues we went into the bar, along with residents of Cornellà who were there eating something before going to football. The street was lost in the background. I didn’t see more. But something sad, unfortunate and luckily everything was in a scare “.

Adrian. Castellón follower. “We got off the bus and headed for the shopping center, which is about a three-minute walk away. Luckily, we were among the first to get off the bus and get there. Once we got to the shopping center, we saw many people running towards us and in the distance people with sticks and throwing stones. We ran until we took shelter in the bathrooms of a bar. After about five minutes the owners of the bar told us that we could leave now that everything was over and they had left.”

Joe and Martha. Cornellà fans. “We were arriving at the field and suddenly the races began, Castellón supporters running because they were being chased by a group of hooded men, with sticks. At a certain moment, an older lady who saw this got up from the terrace of the bar to leave running and has been run over. She has fallen to the ground. Nobody stopped to help her”. “We have been interested, we called 112 and an ambulance came and treated her. They took her by ambulance. She was kind of scared.”

Alfred. Cornellà supporter. “I honestly don’t know who they were. It surprises me that they are from Cornellà. I was in Castalia last season, we won, the public applauded us and we were so happy to be saved. That’s why I don’t understand anything. It was a very rough couple of minutes, with people running and others behind them with sticks and throwing bottles at them. I took refuge in the mall.”
