The municipality of Alphen-Chaam will take action against a controversial dog breeder in Chaam. Animal rights organization House of Animals has previously revealed abuses in a video report and submitted a request for enforcement. That has now been assigned.

In the report, House of Animals stated, among other things, that the Fokker violated rules in the field of animal welfare and the zoning plan. The Fokker then handed in summary proceedings against the organization, due to alleged defamation and defamation. He thought he was wrongly put in a bad light.

The municipality did not participate in the request of House of Animals in February. The man had applied for a permit and there was a view of ‘legalization’. This new decision of the municipality still makes the animal rights organization in favor.

Bad conditions
During several checks it appeared that the man kept much more dogs than is allowed, and moreover under poor conditions. According to the permit, he was allowed to have a maximum of 36 dogs. Supervisors nevertheless found 81, 99 and 79 dogs. 39 dogs were held in another building, while no dogs were allowed to stay there.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) also established violations. The breeder’s vet would have given dogs a medicine that is intended for cattle and pigs. He also registered passports incorrectly. The vet has been fined for this and an order subject to a penalty.

The forbidden medicine was found in a cupboard at the animal pension of the Fokker. With that he himself again violated the rules.

House of Animals is happy that the municipality is now finally maintaining. “During the summary proceedings, this decision was not yet known and the breeder claimed that he had always followed the rules,” says founder Karen Soeters. “We have been able to refute this with images and now the municipality also confirms our statement that this was absolutely not the case.”

The municipality already established last year that it kept too many dogs. The four -legged friends were also found in dirty lofts full of droppings. The municipality is not responsible for the latter, but for the enforcement of zoning plans.

Other breeder at the same location
It is striking that at the same location in 2021 another breeder had to stop the dog trade. That happened after intervention of the municipality. Although it is now a different breeder, the problems remain.

House of Animals also rather ringed the alarms about abuses at dog breeders in Deurne, Eersel, Hapert and Stiphout.
