Contracts announced, Gasly for Alpine, de Vries for AlphaTauri

There are two less seats in the F1 game of chairs.

Pierre Gasly will change his uniform for next season. PDO

Two driving positions for next season have been filled. Pierre Gasly moves to Alpine and Nyck de Vries ascends to AlphaTauri in his place.

Frenchman Gasly, 26, replaces Fernando Alonso, who defected to Aston Martin, at Alpine. The fully Gallic team is completed by a team mate Esteban Ocon.

Gasly, who made his debut in the 2017 F1 series, has been raised by Red Bull, but the road in the energy drink team is blocked. He got his big chance in the mother stable in 2019, but he lost his place Max Verstappen’s side by side in the middle of the season.

Balsam for the wounds came in 2020 at Monza, where Gasly drove to a surprise victory. In total, he has driven to the podium three times. This season he has collected 23 points.

De Vries will not be a pure yellow nose next season, as he already made his GP debut at this year’s Italian GP with Williams. Sick by Alex Albon the lucky gig was a resounding success, as the Dutchman immediately drove to the points.

The former champion of the Formula 2 and Formula E series will initially be part of McLaren’s junior program. After parting ways in 2018, the F1 dream of de Vries, who was always known to be talented, seemed to be over, even though Mercedes picked him up for their electric formula team.

Now the 27-year-old Dutchman will get his chance Yuki Tsunoda alongside.

With the contracts of Gasly and de Vries, there is only one driving place available for Williams and Haas for next season.
