After a season with more shade than light, the BVB bosses draw consequences. Four professionals should not receive any new contracts for the time being. Another, on the other hand, should remain in the long term.

Borussia Dortmund’s season is not according to plan. After all, BVB has achieved at least the chance of fourth place and the associated qualification for Champions League through convincing appearances in the past few weeks.

However, because the benefits planned as a top performer left too often to be desired, those responsible for the club made a strategic decision among four players. The contracts expired in 2026 should not be extended for the time being. The “Bild” newspaper reports.

Instead of racing on quick contract talks, the sporting development in the coming season should be the decisive factor in whether there will be new offers. For Brandt, the Dortmund chapter could end even earlier: According to the report, the offensive player can leave the club in summer – provided that a suitable offer is received. The 29-year-old was rarely convincing in the current season.

Can (31) and Süle (29) are also regularly faced with criticism. At the end of the contract, it would be 35 years old – the club also wants to wait for him too.

Another national player, on the other hand, are on extension. Nico Schlotterbeck should be tied to the club as soon as possible and as long as possible. Before his meniscus injury, which he suffered in early April, the national defender was the most constant professional at BVB.

As the “Sport Bild” reports, several talks with the BVB managers took place before its failure. The signal was clear: Schlotterbeck should extend his contract that runs until 2027. According to the report, an expansion is planned by 2030 – the maximum possible term in the Bundesliga, since contracts are usually limited to five years.

With the signature, however, the 24-year-old still takes time. Schlotterbeck, since this season alongside Julian Brandt Vice captain, asked the club for patience. He initially wanted to start his rehab and become completely fit again before signing the new contract.

In the talks, the BVB managers made it clear that Schlotterbeck should play a central role in the coming years. Internally, it is considered a possible future captain of the club.
