Continental enters into cooperation with US semiconductor designer Ambarella

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)–Continental has agreed on a strategic partnership with Ambarella Inc, a US company for semiconductors with artificial intelligence (AI). As the automotive supplier listed in the DAX announced, both companies will jointly develop scalable, comprehensive software and hardware systems based on AI for assisted and automated driving.

According to the announcement, the software and hardware and the portfolio of automotive system solutions from Continental are to be brought together with Ambarella’s knowledge in the AI ​​area of ​​computer vision, the powerful single-chip systems (system-on-chip, SoC) and the software modules .

In addition to the development of camera-based perception solutions for driver assistance, Continental and Ambarella are concentrating on complete solutions for further automation levels from Level 2+ to highly automated vehicles. According to the announcement, these full-stack systems follow a multi-sensor approach that includes the high-resolution cameras, the radar and lidar sensors as well as the associated control units and the necessary software from Continental.

According to Continental, the energy-efficient solutions in electric vehicles reduce power consumption and cooling requirements, and contribute to a lower battery weight.

The collaboration follows Continental’s announcement in November that it would integrate Ambarella’s energy-efficient SoC family into Continental’s advanced driver assistance systems. According to the announcement, series production of the joint solutions is planned for 2026.
