The controversial winter restaurant ‘Jardin d’Hiver’ in Bruges cannot go ahead with its planned opening. The eight greenhouses on the canals had to be demolished because the operator did not have a permit for the installation along the Oud Sint-Jan.
“The greenhouses disrupt the view of the historic city center,” Mayor Dirk De fauw said earlier. “We have made it clear that the winter restaurant can remain, but only in the courtyard of Oud Sint-Jan, as in previous winters.” However, the courtyard is already occupied, so the operator has no alternative location for the time being. A final meeting is scheduled for Monday between the city and manager Pieter Buysse to find a solution.
