Confirmed: Rapid Wien sign Thierry Gale from Dila Gori

Contract until 2027

Record champions Rapid Wien have signed Thierry Gale. The 21-year-old winger comes from Georgia from Dila Gori, currently fourth in the first division, to Hütteldorf, where he signed a contract that runs until 2027. The winger, who was born in Barbados, is said to cost the Viennese a transfer fee of around 700,000 euros.

Gale moved to Georgia from Hungary in the summer of 2022 and scored 16 goals in 47 competitive appearances for Gori. At Rapid, the left winger is being considered as a possible replacement for Marco Grüll, who could end up with a foreign club by Friday. Barbadian team player Gale is the Caribbean state’s first player in the Bundesliga.

Managing Director Sport Markuskatzer said: “Thierry is currently playing an outstanding national and international season, which is also underlined by his statistics. With his enormous speed and fine ball handling, he is an asset to our offensive. He’s a type of player that we don’t have in the squad in that way. In addition, Thierry not only has a good goal finish, but also knows how to stage his teammates very well in the decisive moments. We see far more potential in him than he has hitherto exploited and we want to help him achieve his maximum sporting performance at Rapid. We are proud that the player has chosen SK Rapid, even though many international clubs wanted to sign him.”
