The German show jumping riders performed well on the first day of the European Championship in A Coruña and are on the medal course in the team ranking.
The team around single Olympic champion Christian Kukuk is in second place in front of the two other rounds. He leads the team from Great Britain.
As the starting rider, national coach Otto Becker nominated the experienced Marcus Ehning with Coolio. The 50-year-old from Borken rides his tenth European Championship in La Coruña and showed a flawless performance in the time jumping at the start of the five-day event. “I could have been a little faster, but without ride without mistakes, the focus was on”, ” commented Ehning.
Hinners gives EM debut
Her EM debut gave Hinner on the Galician coast. The 27-year-old from Pfungstadt received a drop in the Sattel from My Prin. “I wasn’t nervous on the course, a little bit before”, she said to her premiere.
Her friend Richard Vogel, with whom Hinners forms the first couple in a German European Championship team, rode with United Touch. The 28-year-old from Pfungstadt arrived without a drop and achieved the best German individual result.
Strong performance by Kukuk
Olympic champion Kukuk saddled the EM Just Be Gentle and not his gold horse Checker. The 35 -year professional from Riesenbeck nevertheless showed an excellent performance and remained without errors.
The ride of Hans-Dieter Dreher, who does not belong to the German quartet in A Coruña, was disappointing. The 53-year-old from Eimeldingen conceded two drops in the time jumping.
On Thursday and Friday, the Nations Prize is on the program, in which each couple has to complete a round. After the team decision, there is still the single final on Sunday. The best 25 combinations of the previous three sub -exams qualify for this.
