Comment on FC Bayern’s bankruptcy: A final warning shot

Bayern lose to Bremen for the first time in 15 years. A small embarrassment and a major setback.

Seven (!) points behind. FC Bayern are now seven points behind Bayer Leverkusen and the top of the Bundesliga table. The 0-1 home game against Werder Bremen is a setback – and a warning shot. Maybe the last for the record champions.

Before the game, coach Thomas Tuchel emphasized that he had had a strong short training camp in Portugal. After the game, he seemed annoyed and said in an interview with DAZN: “I don’t need to say that we trained well. Nobody believes me after such a performance.”

Bayern still have a catch-up game in hand, on Wednesday against Union Berlin. If they win that, they will be “only” four points behind. If they lose, you can’t even imagine what will happen in Munich.

Bayern are exposed to violent fluctuations

Bayern played against Bremen in a slow, sometimes brash manner. Harmless at the front, especially in the first half, with huge holes at the back. Things only got better when Tuchel made three changes. More momentum, more scoring threat, but the ball didn’t go in.
Werder was in 14th place before the game. Did Bayern perhaps think the game would be a sure-fire success?

It wasn’t even two months ago that Bayern lost 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt. A disgraceful performance in every respect. After that, Munich won every competitive game – until Bremen came and won a direct duel for the first time in 15 years.

In contrast to the still unbeaten league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern are exposed to violent fluctuations. Added to this are the many open transfer questions and our own fans who are taunting coach Tuchel on posters. He had wished for more atmosphere, the response from the Bayern supporters: “A curve also thrives on protest and resistance – enthusiasm doesn’t come at the push of a button!”

What Bayern need least now is disagreement instead of solidarity. Because they need that in the coming weeks – in order to perhaps be able to knock Leverkusen off the top of the table in the end.
