Mohamed Ihattaren’s mother wondered if he was still a footballer. ‘If only Johan Cruijff was still alive’, a supervisor sighed, who, together with Gerald Vanenburg, agent Ali Dursun and confidential adviser Ali Sttaty, are trying to pull Ihattaren’s career out of the doldrums and save the top talent for top football. The player and trainer Wim van Hanegem would take Ihattaren under his wing, even bring in as he once did with Hugo Hovenkamp and Tscheu La Ling when they got sidetracked. ‘Most of all, Mo has to do it himself’, says Vanenburg. He doesn’t think Mo is pathetic, but he does have compassion for the teenager.
