Xatar’s death: Investigations are completed- the cause of death remains secret.
On May 8, 2025, investigators found the rapper Xatar (bourgeois Giwar Hajabi, † 43) dead in an apartment in Cologne city center. Since then, the Cologne public prosecutor’s office has been investigating the circumstances of death in order to exclude a possible external fault. Now the result is available: the investigation has ended.

No external negligence
“The Cologne public prosecutor’s office has completed the investigation into the death circumstances of Giwar Hajabi after evaluating the chemical-toxicological report commissioned by it,” said Chief Prosecutor Ulrich Bremer to the “Bild”. “There is no evidence that other people culpably caused the death of the artist.”
What exactly led to death remains secret. For reasons of personal protection by Xatar and its relatives, the public prosecutor does not publish any further details. Even the autopsy and the surveys of stuff: inside and relatives had previously not delivered any signs of a crime. The new report finally confirms this impression.
Music career and gold robbery
Xatar was considered one of the most controversial and influential rappers in Germany. In 2008 his debut album appeared or nothing that was immediately appealed to in the German rap scene. In 2009 he attacked a value transport at Ludwigsburg with accomplices. The gang captured 120 kilos of tooth gold and jewelry worth 1.8 million euros, the prey has disappeared to this day. After his escape to Iraq, the secret service arrested him, later a German court sentenced him to eight years in prison.
Despite his past, Xatar started a music career in prison. His album no. In 2012 he recorded 415 in his cell with a dictation device and wrote the texts there. It was the first album in German rap history that was completely created in prison.
With his label “Alles or Nix Records” he discovered artists after his release: inside like Schwesta Ewa. Eno, Sero El Mero and Mero. Director Fatih Akin filmed his moving life in 2022 under the title “Rheingold”, based on Xatar’s autobiography “Alles or nothing”. Xatar was embodied by Emilio Sakraya.
In recent years it had become quieter about the once very successful musician. In 2024 his label “everything or nothing records” had to register bankruptcy. His real estate project “Goldmann Tower” also failed. In 2021, Xatar had a stroke, but got help in good time. Finally, he is said to have continued to work on music, but according to media reports, he was also private insolvent.
Farewell and legacy
The musician born in Iran, who grew up in Bonn, leaves his wife and five children. Around 1000 people, including numerous driving away: inside out of the rap scene, came to the Bonn north cemetery. To appreciate his life’s work, friends and partners organize a large commemorative concert in the Cologne Lanxess-Arena on May 7, 2026.
